engine noises
hi i am new to this forum. i have a 91 cherokee 4.0L and their is weird chattering clanking noise coming from the engine, the odd thing is it gets worse when i turn the defrost on or turn the steering wheel as far as it can go. sometimes it sputters and acts like it wants to die out? any ideas of what this could be? any info would be appreciated. thanks

Sounds like it might be the ac compresser, when u turn it on it puts more strain on the system. the defrost will turn on the ac compresser, also turning the wheel puts more stress on the belt driven accesorys.

My AC compressor groans a bit when I turn on the heat/AC. The cooling fan also cycles on and off. Not sure if it's normal...anyone got an opinion?
I ordered a shop manual from the local Jeep dealer on Friday. Hopefully it will be a bit more accurate and offer better explanations than Haynes or Chiltons.
