Default engine knock

So my 4.0 sounds like a diesel. What usually loosens up inside our blocks? Is it worth opening the bottom end and retorqueing the rods/ replacing bearings? Runs smooth after 1500 rpms. Don't have the $ to stroke it out now

Depending on what the jeep is worth to you depends on if you should either open the bottom end of yours or just put a JY motor in her. I'm sorry I couldn't tell you what was knocking even if I heard it. But maybe this ? I asked could help you figure out what your next step should be. Good luck on yours

my valvetrain rattles pretty good. I'm glad it's not main block rattles, because I can replace a head lol...

Get a stethoscope (or a broom handle) and pinpoint the sound source as good as you can. Hopefully it's not a rod. I have a loud tick that cycles in and out that a lot of people swore was a wrist pin or rodbut is most definitely a valve or rocker

That or one of the valves is letting some oil seep by when it's off.
