Does anyone know where to get a engine harness for a 98 cherokee 4.0L, 2 wheel drive with a automatic transmission? Only thing I can find is a 99 harness on ebay.
2wd/4wd isn't going to change anything engine harness wise.
99 engine harness won't work for you because multiple plugs changed between 98/99.
Your gonna need a 97 or 98 engine harness.
I don't mean to knock the classifieds here but I have not found them to be very reliable. The bookface marketplace or as posted above, Car-part.com would be solid sources.
This was just from my local area based against my zip code. I'd advise you to call the places of business listed vs any of the email prompts. Some but not all places will ship a part like this as well which is why a phone call would be beneficial
Why do you think the harness is bad...you went from a tic, changed the head, and now you need a harness...unless you know you damaged something during the head swap

you know that we have talked about this on my other post in the modified xj forum already?
Yes i have followed Your posts since you asked about the edelbrock head...nothing you have posted would have led me to a harness as an issue...if it was my jeep. But its not so you follow whatever path you think is needed
In the other thread I forgot to post that if you unplug number 4 injector the horrible idle doesn't change, and I swapped number 4 injector with number 3 and if you unplug the new number 4 injector the idle still doesn't change its still horrible
Pull the spark plug on nbr 4, hook it back up to the wire, and ground out the base with an alligator clip to a good ground, put another plug into the nbr 4 hole just to plug it..start jeep make sure the plug fires bright and steady. once verified good spark move on to the injectors. One side of the injector plug gets constant 12v The other side gets a cycling ground from the pcm to fire the injector. EITHER..hook up a meter or a 12v test light to the voltage side and ground out the other wire and start jeep...if steady 12v then shake harness from plug working back untill you loose 12v or run out of accessible harness. If your 12v is good all time then hook up meter or light the 12v side and the ground side of plug and do the shake test again untill you loose the ground or run out of harness. If you have 12v and constant cycling ground then injector harness not your problem
In hindsight, i would not think its an injector harness problem at all. On my 01, if i disconnect the injector plug it sets an injector driver code, or some similar fault code. A broken 12v wire or the corresponding ground wire is electrically the same as removing the connector and should set the same fault. I would assume your 98 works mostly the same as the 01. Remove the #4 connector and see if it sets a cel and a code.
I put a noid light on it and it's firing. I pulled the plug and it had spark I also checked compression which was 175ish hot. So I moved the number 4 injector to the number 3 spot and vice-versa, and still had an issue on the number 4 cylinder. And yes if I pull the number 4 injector plug it throws a CEL and the 0204 code.
