Question engine fan

I just got a 01 cherokee & i noticed that whenever I have the heater or a/c running something in the engine comparment kicks on every minute or so. I think it is the cooling fan is this operating correctly?

more than likely its the a/c pump and the auxillary fan. The fan turns on with the a/c pump for extra cooling and air flow. All is good it sounds like though.

Kicking on with a/c or def is normal too. If it's really cold sometimes it won't kick on. Still normal.
I asked a similar question on NAXJA and got this, maybe it'll help clarify more.

"""That's normal. If the temperature of the low pressure switch which is mounted to the accumulator is below 30F, the compressor will not engage. If it's way cold out, it's conceivable it may not warm up enough to turn on even after the engine compartment is warm.

From the FSM.

"The low pressure cycling clutch switch contacts are
open when the suction pressure is approximately 141
kPa (20.5 psi) or lower. The switch contacts will close
when the suction pressure rises to approximately 234
to 262 kPa (34 to 38 psi) or above. Lower ambient
temperatures, below approximately -1°C (30°F) dur-
ing cold weather will also open the switch contacts.
This is due to the pressure/temperature relationship
of the refrigerant in the system."""

When the a/c compressor cycles on so does the fan. Completely normal.
