I am wondering if my engine has been swapped so I checked the build code and it says I2MXI3. I could only find this on Google and except for the MX part, which identifies it as a 4.0L MPI engine, nothing else makes sense or matches.

Any ideas?

where on the engine block do you find the id code?

 

It's on a small plate attached right underneath the head gasket, between the #2 and #3 cylinder.

Look on the block at base of distributor....I believe someone posted about a date stamp in that area.

Oh, no, it's to the right of the distributor, between plugs 2 & 3. The block casting number I think is under the distributor, but as far as I know that only gives the date ranges based on when that particular casting number was produced. I want to know the specific date that the engine was built, which requires looking up the engine day build code. Unfortunately my build code doesn't seem to match anything I've been able to find online.

 

Someone's gotta be able to make sense of that code...

 

Well I called Jeep today and the only thing they can figure out from the code is that my engine is a 4.0L I6 Power Tech Engine. That must come from the MX. Bleh, useless.
