I recently changed my spark plugs and wires on my 1996 4.0L. After I started the engine it would idle and cut off. Restart, would idle OK then I rev it up it would cut off again as if someone shut the switch off. The only thing I did was move around the clump of wires and connector plugs around at the rear of the engine to access #5 & #6 spark plugs. I'm thinking one of the wires in that clump was disturbed and is loosing it's connection. What do Y'all think?

 

I think the ASD (automatic shutdown) wire from the ignition switch to the power distribution center under the hood runs right through there. If that wire were to open the circuit, the vehicle would shut down immediately as if shut off by a switch. It feeds the control side of the ASD relay in the PDC and without it, the ASD relay will switch off, and power will be cut from all important ignition systems (fuel injectors, ignition, etc).

If all you did was move around that bundle back there, then I would start the inspection there, re-seat any connections, and check for any rubbing around the rear of the fuel rail.
