Engine Compression Problems..Help!
First time for a few days I've been able to respond. If my dad were closer I might have this conquered. When I pulled the pistons, only one old ring was stuck and broke when I removed it. I used a groove cleaner to clean all the junk from the grooves. The new rings went on with the ends turned about 60 degrees from each other. The timing chain and gears showed very little wear or play. I checked the timing marks several times from various positions, including using a mirror to look at them straight on. Wet or dry, #5 was the only cylinder to give compression.
The head came from a recommended Jeep mechanic. It reportedly checked out for him, and when I examined it, everything looked right. I haven't as yet had a chance to do a leak down. Maybe that will reveal the problem.

Finally got past the compression problem. Now it's something else. I got the engine all put back together, charged the battery up good, and turned on the key to start. VOILA! After a few cranks the engine fired up. At first it stumbled a little, like the CPU was having to reset all the sensor readings, then it just started accelerating FAST! I quickly shut it off. I started looking to see if any sensor was known to cause such rapid acceleration. Nothing I read about them fit this problem. I tried a few things, but each time I start the engine, it immediately heads for the red line on the tach. Any ideas?

First off, you have to tell us why you had no compression..
The reason it took off is that your intake manifold is not completely seated on the locating dowels even though the bolts are tight.
