engine blew, need new one asap
anyone know where i can find a 4.0 from something that preferable doesn't have all the vacuum systems that the 90 and below engines have? the engine in mine blew and it had the vacuum system fuel intake and i'm trying to get away from that if at all possible. But anyway, where should i look into getting another engine for a decent price?

Well craiglist, junk yard would be the best bet for a used motor. For a reman motor call local parts shops and engine shops and get prices. Beyond that there really is no trick or special place to look.
Craigslist. Just put in a "wanted" ad for a jeep 4.0 and you will find one.
I put in an ad and had 4 offers the next day all for around $75.00 You might want to spend a little more for a good running one, I was looking for one to rebuild but some of the offers were for good running motors. You can find one quick and cheap on Craigslist.

Where are you located. I have heard of a junkyard near tremont pa that swears nothing is over $100. I know a guy that got an autotrans for $75 and put it in at rausch creek. And my buddy is parting out an XJ and is ditching an engine. He might ship it on your dime.

I saw a website recently that sold "working" Jeep engines for like $400-$600...Ebay has plenty of $1400 remanufactured...Or as others have mentioned the junkyard...I saw a Jeep in the one near here which was obviously in a pretty bad side impact accident and the insurance company had "totaled" it out but there was no damage in the engine area so I would assume that was still working at the time of the accident.

www.car-parts.com .... they search all of your local more computer friendly junkyards around your area or any other... but if your junkyards dont like computers then they wont be on there... i only know of one in my area thats not on there... but craigslist is awesome in finding one also... just search for the 4.0 jeep engine... make sure to search grand cherokees and wranglers.. tj's cj's... whatever might have carried them... Also keepin mind whole vehicles... ive got 3 or 4 listings in my area for whole cherokees for $150... get a motor and any other parts u may need one day and scrap the rest or stick it in he field... goodluck!
