Default d44 question

My buddy has a d44 in his back yard that he was gonna use on his ******.
I wanna put it on a 89 xj but its 2 inches wider than the d35 on it now Will it work?

do you know what is out of?what is the ratio,is it the same as yours? Are the spring perches in the same place? I do not think it is out of a jeep. If you have to put a lot of money in it to use it.

A lot of older pickups had D44s. One thing you might want to do is take off the cover and find out how many splines the axle has. The earliest ones had 1, then 19 and I forget what the spline count is now, but it's 29 I think. This will affect what lockers and so forth you can buy for it.

i got my dana44 out of a cherokee for $150 at a jy... but i took a listing from craigslist of a guy selling a dana44 out of his XJ to put dana60's for $150 in ATL... the JY computer listed it as $250 for one gear ratio and $450 with a different ratio... i gave him the less money now or the maybe more money later option... so he took the less money now... and i didnt have to drive an hour to get one... but if this one your looking at is gonna take more then $250 or $450 to re-gear and move spring perches and all that then id say it aint worth it... unless you buy it... find out what it came from and list it on craigslist for $300...lol
