I'd take a close look at the coil packs for signs of arcing, spark going somewhere other than the plugs.

Went to a recommended mechanic this morning and he confirmed my suspicions and thinks that it is te could and probably the injectors. I am going to do the work myself. He did say he could clean the injectors for me. Will be cheaper than replacing with new ones.

There is a strainer in the tank. There is going to be an inline filter between the tank and the engine, usually along the inboard side of a frame rail.

My '99 doesn't have an inline filter.

Pulled the coil rail and two of the pieces that fit over the spark plugs were majorly cracked. Replacing that tonight along with spark plugs. Have the fuel injectors cleaned as we speak. Will install everything tonight and let everyone know what happens.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I'm not out of the woods yet but the help has been great!

Really? What do you do when the strainer clogs up? Pull the tank, I guess.

I'm glad I don't have to do that on my '87 or '92.

Unfortunately yes. Its all part of the fuel pump unit in the tank...PIA to replace and expensive if you buy a good one.

A buddy of mine had me come rescue him a couple weeks ago. His car (1987 BMW) was doing the exact same thing after he had driven it around a while. Turned out to be vapor lock. I iced down his fuel line by the fuel rail and it fired right up. When we got him home I replaced the fuel filter for him ( He's disabled ) and thrw a can of seafoam with some fresh fuel in it and he hasn't had an issue since. Just something to look at if you haven't already.

Forgot to add-- If you think it's vapor lock, HEET in the RED bottle has alcohol in it and that will help remove the water if it's in your tank and lines.

Ok. Replaced the coil packs. Fixed the vacuum leek and is running better. Now anytime you try to hammer on the throttle it starts missing really bad. Could that be the injectors? Will get up to speed just fine as long as I don't gun it. Still puzzled

Are any of the inj. plugs loose? My 90 does that when an inj. plug backs off a little.

Premium fuel in hot weather reduces the likelihood of vapor lock.

Possibly. I will check. I know that three of the injectors looked pretty rough when I pulled then off. Just trying to trouble shoot this myself which is fun but getting costly

Ok. New info. I realized that the bucking doesn't occur until I hit 2800 rpms. Does that say anything?

Have you checked your fuel pressure yet?
