Ok so, somewhere on this forum I was checking out a mod where they were able to hook up a socket in their jeep just like the one that you would see in your wall. Now I know that I could use the cigarette lighter adapter but this guy had it hooked up directly to his battery. Does anybody know about this?

if you try and pull any power from the thing it will pop the cig lighter fuse. I bet he ran a fused wire from his battery that was consistant with the power out put of his converter.

you need an inverter. you could get a belt driven inverter, but they are very expensive.
or you can just get an inverter from a hardware store like canadian tire, or whatever you have down in the states, then if you're crafty, you can build it into the jeep somewhere and run the plugs to the body panels in the cargo area.
just remember, they do get hot, and need room to breath.

I remember seeing that, I think he was running a 1300 watt inverter which was located under his seat, and then ran romex to a box in his cargo area. inverters can be picked up at any o'riellys, but you get what you pay for. To figure out how many amps you'll get, divide the watts by volts to get amps...1300W/110V= 11.8 amps. Enough to run a small compressor, couple halagen lights, or most power tools.

It is worth knowing that most solid-state inverters produce a pseudo sine-wave output (a bit like a modified square wave), rather than a pure sine-wave. Most appliances will have no problem running on such a mains input voltage, but some (especially those incorporating mains motors) will not work. Best try before you buy, if there is a particular application you want your inverter to run.
