Default Electrical problems :/

K so every now and then when I go to start my jeep it acts like the battery is dead. All the interior lights dim and it wont crank. It will click but wont turn over. I can get out and mess with the possitive battery terminal and it will be fine again. I have cleaned and wire brushed both terminals but it still does it. Also I have a belt squeal sometimes (random) and at the same time my voltage meter drops. That sometimes coincides with the no crank problem but like I said its random. Im stupped whether it would be the battery goin bad or the alternator? Any help or experience is appreciated

If you can wiggle the terminals and it starts then it's the terminals, cleaning may not be enough, you may have to replace them. whatever is starting to sieze and drag down your motor and make the belt squeel is a separate issue.

how bad is your belt sounds like when it squeels its slipping on the alternator, that would be your voltage meter drop, mine does it all the time when i wash it

I was told when I bought the jeep a few months ago the belt was new and it looks pretty new, itll do it on start up sometimes and sometimes when I come to a stop and it only lasts for maybe 15 seconds at the most. I figured its slipping on the alt but I wasnt sure if it had anything to do with the startup problem im having too. Im kinda curious as to why its slipping also, it started doing it after I went mudding one time I figured it was just wet but it still does it and thats been about a month ago.

It sounds like a starter issue or your wires for the battery. But since you said it started after you when mudding a month ago I'm feeling that. My jeep did the exact same thing the first time I went mudding ant the problem is the starters at the very bottom of the engine and can get clogged with all that mud you just enjoyed. My advice is to check your battery wires, check you wires to your starter, then if they seem ok then it's your starter. It's a simple replacement, just disconnect battery, disconnect starter, remove bolts from starter( when your under they will be facing the front of the yeep I think, the ones that face the rear remove part of the trans plate), pull out and down the starter, then reverse of un install. For mine the first 10-20 cold starts took a little longer crank time and I used some starter fluid which helped. Now I have a perfect 2-3 crank start. Hoping to get a msd coil soon too

I dont think its the starter, Itll fire right up after one crank or so. The no start problem has just started in the last 3 or 4 days but the belt squeal was after the mudding. I can drive around for however long I want and SOMETIMES randomly itll act like the battery is dead when I go to start it again, but all I have to do is mess with the possitive terminal, like I dont even have to move it just putting some pressure on it will fix it. I cleaned and tightened the terminals but im going to go do a thurough cleaning on them today and see if it does it at all tonight. as for the belt squeal im gonna try tightening the belt but im not sure how to do that, someone correct me if im wrong but is it the bolt beside the power steering pump?

Yup, it should be the pulley to the bottom of it and the tension bolt should be to the left of that. Also see if belt dressing may help, it sometimes works
