Electrical Problem- Dome light and Radio
On my 89 Cherokee I am having a problem with what I think is a short in the electrical. The radio and dome light do not work any more. It went out slowly, the power to the radio would cut in and out every once and a while and if i turned the dome light switch on the radio would shut off and the dome light would not turn on. They both have now quit working but every once and a while when it rains the radio will get power for a few seconds then shut off again. I am thinking there is a wire that is worn or something.
My questions are:
Is the radio and the dome light on the same fuse?
Is there a wire diagram out there that will show me where the wires that go to the radio and dome light are so I can find the short?
Any suggestions?

are those the only things not working you can start by checking your ignition switch they have a part in controling these start the truck and wiggle the key if they start to go on that is your problem also check all your fuses and after that there is a brown wire on the ignition switch it powers all these thngs plus a few others make sure it is getting power

if the radio is an aftermarket check the wires this exact problem will happen if your switched power on the radio(red) on an aftermarket deck some times theres an illumination wire on the car and it reads the same as a switched power wire but its actually the illumination but yes the radio and dome light some times are on the same fuse specialy if its hooked to the illumination wire instead of the switched power

if you are still having the problem abd all else is good pull your fuse block off and check teh connections behind the fuse block fo those particular accesories the wires can sometimes pull off or work their way loose after time

I agree with the brown ignition wire, it could be the plug onto the steering colum is loose or sparked so its not getting good conection . that is an issue my 89 had. i found it while changeing colum.

I would check all the headunit connections anyway. A wire may be pinched, a solder may have cracked, a piece of tape may have fallen off, or a wire's insultaion may have worn off. Check inline fuses and grounds while you are at it.
