Hey guys
I have a 2000 xj that's giving me some weird electrical problems. It starts and runs fine for the most part but occasionally will cut off when I put it in reverse. Doesn't do it into any other gear just reverse. It will also cut off while rolling up or down the front windows. Lights dim if button is pressed and intermittently will kill the motor and all dash lights. Turning it off and attempting to start it again works 95% of the time. Sometimes it's a hard crank before starting.

I've checked all grounds and cleaned them up. Rig has a brand new battery and alternator.

Also seems unrelated but ac stopped blowing cold before the problems started. Would appreciate any advice.

See if any codes have been stored that may help pinpoint what is, or may be causing it. You need a starting point.

I'm betting a bad battery cable. You have 4 of them, not 2. Get rough with them. Pull, yank, twist. If it's bad, you want to break it so you can find where it's bad.

That's where I'd start, anyway.

 

Thanks for the replies guys. I pulled codes and found nothing at all so dead end there. I then went and rechecked all cables and grounds. Everything turned out to be good. Keep in mind all my battery cables were upgraded to 1/0 when I replaced the alternator.
