Exclamation Electrical issue; Need Help; Thanks

I recently bought a 99 cherokee sport (4.0L) and have had a number of electrical issues. First off, the high beams did not work, I repleced the sockets and now the headlights work as they should. However I noticed yesterday; whenever I hit the brakes and I have, the headlights OFF the back light on the dash comes on, the radio backlight dims, and the parking lights come on. It only acts maybe half the time I drive it and when the headlights are on everything works as it should. I also noticed the drivers side brake light is out, the filliment looks fine and the sockets clean but I changed the bulb anyways, the tail light works but when I hit the brakes I get nothing.

Thanks,
Matt

Do your headlights flicker at all?

Check fuses 7 and 23 on the passenger side kickpanel. Fuses 19 and 23 at the Power Distrubution Box under the hood.

I'd also have a peek at the brake light switch and surroundings

Default Thanks

Thanks everybody, turned out the conector in the cargo area behind the spare tire had burnt up and was shorting out. Jeeps a little rusty and missing the bumper corner so there was a good amount of mud and water in and around the conectors. I used some wire nuts in place of the conector, riveted some sheet metal underneath and all is well now.

Thanks
