I've been haveing electrical problems with my xj for about a mounth now. It started with the speakers making noise and then snowballed into a bunch of other things. I have a water leak on the front passenger side near the fuse block so I ended up replaceing the fuse block. It fixed most of the issues I was haveing but the speakers still made noise. One day I was cleaning my jeep and noticed smoke pouring out of the back. After that the speaker noise went away but the radio dosent work. 2 days ago it happened again when I was driving. I started looking for the wires that got burnt today and found the 2 conectors in the right rear the issue. One was melted and the other badly caroded. My question is does anyone know if I can get these conectors from the dealer and if so what conector number are they? Its a 98 sport there both white 6 wire conectors. There the only 2 back there. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I thought of that the only thing is the conectors are right above the common rot spot in the rear quarter so any mud or water that gets kicked up buy the tires ends up on the conectors. My buddy has his jeep in my garage that he's parting out and his look almost as bad as mine id rather buy them new and make one trip then buy used and make 5 trips to junk yards trying to find one in good condition

you may also want to find out what's causing the melting/fire issue- the connectors are probably not the cause, they are the result.
And if you're worried about just the connectors then cut them out and splice the wires together (use solder and heatshrink).

Some times if you have a good auto parts supply house nearby you can actually order some connectors from them.
Even if you cannot find an exact replacement, you can also go to an electronics supply house and get connector sets to replace the offending connectors.
As to the cause of they arcing and shorting, if there is mud and water getting back there that could be a cause.
I have to say though, if these connectors are INSIDE the body of the vehicle the only way for water to get to them is if the floor is rusted out or if there is water leaking in via the taillight assemblies.
I just did a major rust eradication and repair in the back of a 96 XJ. The rust started on both back corners because water leaked in via the tail lights and having no place to go it caused the rust.
Lift up the carpet in the back, and see what is going on with the floor.
Pull out the tail lights and see if there is rust on the floor underneath them.
EDIT: Autozone, Advanced Auto and similar parts places may or may not be able to order connectors. When I go for connectors the place I go to has a parts counter out front, a full machine shop in the back and supplies/caters to all the repair shops in the area.
