Default Electric Window Problem, 1997 XJ...

In the few short weeks I have owned my 1997 2.5TD XJ this is my fourth request for help/advice thread, I'm hoping it's my last for a while too...

All the power windows work from the drivers master switches, none of the other three, passenger and both rear from their respective controls though...

I have swapped the window lock button, for one guaranteed to me as working...

There must be a common wire that the other three share, from the drivers master controls, that has to be faulty somewhere eh?

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers, Stu.

Check the yellow wire at the master switch, that should have 12v when switched to unlock. If it has 12v there, check it at the wiring as it enters the Jeeps frame. It's not unusual for wires to break in the drivers door loom.

If yellow wire doesn't have 12V, connect it to tan wire, feeding master switch.
Check diagram.

X2. Common problem. All door switches run through the driver's door. Once the lock button or that wire are damages, the other switches won't work. I got lucky with my XJ and a can of compressed air got my switch box working again.

I put a paperclip in the switch and note the window lock doesn't work but all the controls do. I'd say it's worth not having the lock switch !

your door harness might look like this....just not as extreme

once the insulation cracks its game over, the copper will eventually corrode to dust

If it is only the switch that is bad you may want to bypass it. It is very common for them to go out. So if it's not a broken wire you may want to give this a try. What ever you do. DO NOT use a paper clip like they say to do in the write up.
Keep us up dated.

Right a paper clip is not a good long term solution. I plan on replacing it with something safer and longer lasting.

All fixed, thank you.....

I located the yellow wire on the master switch and discovered that the terminal/connection there, just on that one wire, was not the best...

I cut the end two terminals from the block, yellow and blue (blue is from memory so could be wrong?) and fitted new spade ends on those two wires, so I could make sure that both, especially the yellow, was properly connected when all went back together...

Working a dream right now, thanks all...

What if the scenario is that my drivers side window switches can roll down my rear and passenger windows but not up?
