Default electric fan keeps running......

Hi all. Yesterday after getting home from work and shutting off my 99 cherokee, the electric fan kept running for several minutes before shutting off. I restarted it, checked temp gauge, etc....not overheating....right where it always is at operating temperature (about 210) when I shut off, fan kept running again...any ideas?

I am not sure on the Cherokee but some vehicles were equipped so that the fan could come on after the vehicle was shut off to keep it cool/cool it down. They have a tendency to continue to heat up to a point after the engine is shut down (partially due to lack of circulation). Although it is minimal at times you can turn the engine off and watch the gauge rise at least 5-10 degrees.

It's usually the fan relay power contacts stuck closed. Relay is in the PDC. Location marked on te cover of the PDC.

try checking the fan's relay mine fried when i got it and it would just keep running for almost 20 minutes after shutoff. replaced the relay and it worked just fine, if not you may have an electrical issue
