Hello,

I have a 4ltr petrol 1999 xj Orvis - I have a problem with the electric cooling fan, when i select heat or aircon even when the jeep is not up to operating temperature , the fan cuts in for about ten seconds then goes off for about 30 seconds, then back on for ten seconds - drives me crazy !!

I have eleminated the relay and the fan both operate fine --- any suggestions welcome please

is the compressor kicking in And out also if it is might be low on freon?

 

Would that happen even if the aircon was not selected - I do hear a clunk of sorts before it happens and the revs drop slightly ?

yes the ac compressor comes on when heat is selected look at the front of ac compressor you will se it ingauge and dis engauge if its doing it the fan comes on to cool the freon down

 

There are 5 selector positions that engage the a/c compressor and efan and as mentioned, low freon will cause rapid on/off.

Re-gas I will try and let you know. The stealership wanted £55 to put on thier computer to diagnose what it might be !!
