I did clean that one up, CCKen, but I saw in another of your posts that I've missed one, the one below the alternator/battery (nearby and underneath that dist. cap), so I am going to run that test on the ac and clean up that ground and see where it stands.

thanks.

OK, I just did that test... V20 on meter from said AC tube to battery negative shows .60 volts.

This is with the key in ON position (but engine off).

What do you make of that??

I started pulling out relays/fuses in the PDC while still testing the same AC line...

When I started pulling out the relay marked ASD, the electric fan started going on an off, and when it was removed fully, the AC line lost about .02 volts.

I am still testing more relays (family interruption , but figure I'd throw that into the data...

This shouldn't happen at all.

As I recall, the radiator electric fan won't turn on unless the PCM senses that the engine is running and the alternator is on line.

Refer to the PDC layout below. It's marked 98/99 but it's close to a 97.

While checking the tube for voltage, remove the 50 Amp maxi fuse marked "JB". This is the main feed to the Junction Block (in the passenger footwell). If the voltage goes away with this fuse pulled, there's an issue in your JB.

When cleaning the grounds, should I disconnect the battery first? I'm guessing I should, it's just that my terminals have nuts that are all rounded off and it's a pain...
Yes, yes, one day I'll get some new terminals

Default More Info

OK, thanks... I checked that.

1) Removing 50 amp fuse marked JB: no change in voltage on AC line.

Some more info I have discovered:

2) When inserting the JB fuse, the power doors engaged a couple times as I wiggled it in (normal?)

3) I pulled open the bottom of the PDC and found the wires at the bottom of the radiator fan relay were loose, it definitely looks like someone was in there before. I manually pushed the relay prongs into the wire ends and it seem solid now.

Now the fan does not go on and off when messing with ASD relay.

4) I cleaned the grounds nearby dist. cap as described in CCKen's other post, and after that, the voltage DID drop on AC from .6 to .5. It is consistently lower.

Last bit of info:

5) Tested with key off, on and engine on:
5a) Engine on, volts on AC line: .52
5b) Key on, engine off, volts on AC line: .47
5c) Key off, volts on AC line: .48

Sorry for info deluge, not 100% sure what is relevant yet... THANKS AGAIN

Very Odd.

With the key off that .48 volts looks like an Ignition Off Draw (IOD). Try pulling the IOD fuse (PDC).

Checked my Jeep and I get zero volts with key to RUN/ON.

I did the IOD fuse, and saw no change. I then did every fuse and saw no change.

So then I took the power line off the PDC completely, this is the green and black wires that go to the PDC on the front with two eyes that bolt down. I took THAT completely off... still no change to voltage on AC line?? With PDC disconnected, key off, voltage: .42 volts.

One other thing I noticed, I started the engine and got .82 volts on the AC line. Then I messed around for a bit with the jeep off, and then started the engine again, and the AC line was showing .48 volts...

It's interesting that you can even feel that low voltage.....
