Default Electical Wiring Mess (Ignition Switch?)

Anybody know what this plug is for. I'm getting tired of the is big roll of like 5 ft long yellow wire under the dash. I followed it up to this plug. I don't want to cut the yellow wire off in case it's for something important. Anyways, so the the plug it goes not also has a purple and black wire, the black wire goes to the ground under the dash, and the purple wire goes to a plug on the steering column. The purple wire then comes back out of the plug and splices into a red wire that goes into the wiring harness for the jeep.

I thing this steering column plug is the ignition switch. Number 51 on this diagram. Here's a pic of an XJ ignition switch I found on Google too

I've also heard that it may be the the high beam switch. I'm going to unplug it and see if my high beams work or not. Meanwhile, if anybody gots any other ideas, let me know. Also, still not sure what the loose yellow wire is for or what the upper plug behind the gauge cluster is ethier. Thanks

If anybody can get pics of their XJ column plug/wires, that would be great. Thanks again

I'm not sure what it is but maybe since it may be going to the high beams, the previous owner used it to turn on aftermarket lights with the high beams? I don't know just a guess. I wired my light bar so it comes on with the high beams. Good luck, hope you get it figured out!

did you connect your light bar wire to the highbeam switch? If so. My jeep came with after market fogs on the front with just the wires dangling down, maybe they used to be connected there like yours.

I ran a wire from the empty headlight plug (I put a new harness in so its only using one of the stock plugs) and ran that to the switch wire on the relay. But there's other ways to do the same thing.

So, it ended up being the dimmer switch. I just removed all the extra wiring. I removed the entire yellow wire, the purple wire going from the mystery connector to the dimmer switch, the connector ground wire, as well as the connector itself. Thanks for the help.
