Question Elec Fan Running with Ignition Off. wtf?

So today we got some snow. I pulled a jeep parking job (ie through a snow drift) in front of the shops and got out. Came back to my jeep a few mins later and the fan was running. Key out, ignition off.

Drove around for a few mins, aimed for some bumps (figuring it was a water short). All good next time I parked.

Anyone have ideas on what I might have shorted so that I can go fix the insulation?

Cheers

I believe it was the "auxiliary electric cooling fan." 1998 XJ limited

Thanks a bunch!

From the FSM:
Models equipped with a 4.0L 6-cylinder engine may
also have an auxiliary electrical cooling fan. This is with models that have air conditioning and/or heavy duty cooling. The fan is controlled by the cooling fan relay, which is located in the power distribution center (PDC) (Fig. 10). For the location of relay within the PDC, refer to the label on PDC cover.

The electric radiator cooling fan is powered from the battery bus through the fan relay in the PDC. The power contacts in the relay may have been stuck closed. Change the Radiator Cooling Fan relay. They're cheap enough.

Thanks a bunch! Problem hasn't recurred, but I bought a spare relay and stuck it in the glovebox.

Much appreciated

Good move. That relay will work in four (4) places in your PDC.

Thanks for the follow-up.
