ECM impossible to find
I have a 2001 Cherokee that the previous owner converted to a 5speed.
I cannot figure out where to find a new ECM for it in order to get it registered.
All companies say I need a part number but because the ECM was never changed over I cannot figure out what part number I need to give them. These ECMs are non refundable so you can see why I’m stuck.
Any help or suggestions as to what I should do would be appreciated.

Call your local Jeep dealership. You may have to try multiple times or different dealerships until you find someone there that is willing and able to do some research for you.
If you give them your current VIN number, then tell them that you need to find out what the closest matching ECU for an XJ with your specifications BUT with a manual tranny is, they should be able to get you the part number.
I have an ECU in my 95 that didn't match up with any of the listed replacements so I called a local dealer with my VIN and they were able to pretty quickly find the exact -correct- ECU part number for me.
Despite not being able to find an I6 5spd in 00 when I was trying to buy one new, I know for a fact that they did make an 01 with the I6 and 5-spd since I looked at and test drove one prior to finding and buying my 95.
