Good day everyone!
I was having a chat with one of my car buddies and we got into a conversation over my project. I own a 97 XJ 4.0 auto trans 4x4. It had some unibody frame damage so I bought a junked 98 XJ auto trans RWD for its metal unibody. I got what I needed off it and I am no longer in possession of it.
Besides the metal I needed, I took the ECM off it because it was easy to take off lol. Anyways sorry for the long back story. The conversation we had involved that ECM I took off that 98 XJ and if it would plug and play into my 97 XJ if my current ECM were to go bad. I didn't know the answer and neither did he.
We are both newbies when it comes to that side of cars. I did some googling and couldn't get an answer so I decided to ask on here. Any thoughts would be helpful.
Thank you for your time.

the answer is "maybe" and depends what security system you have
one way to get an idea is to check the Part Number of the PCM, which is 56041 XXX or similar
then enter the two PCM numbers into Google, which will link you to PCM rebuilders, who generally have a compatibility listing of part numbers on their site, if they are listed together, they should work imo
(If you send an old PCM to one of them they can check and re-program it for quite a low fee, or exchange a failed one. They enter the correct VIN for one thing)
