So should the elec fan run all the time with a/c (defrost on) or not. Mine surges constantly with a/c on. Stops immediately with a/c off.

It should only run when the ac compressor clutch is engaged.

Yes, efan on when compressor is engaged. Sounds like u r low on freon and the compressor is cycling on/off too often thus turning the efan on/off too often.

The compressor clicks in sync with the fan, so all I need is a freon top up?

It does blow cold still, BTW.

it should also turn on if your engine temp reaches 220*

never get there....

Could be because my defrost is almost always on & so is the fan, keeping me too cool!

I have another thread going on that-I can take my cap off right after driving, & all hoses stay soft.....weird.
