Default E-Brake Trouble ??

Ok I pull the E-brake....hear it click, "Brake Light" comes on...but if I don't have it in gear it will roll....hhhmmmmm.......

Could the cable be worn/loose? Dosn't roll fast, but if I didn't leave it in gear it would roll into wifes car.

P.S.

My first of many XJ woes!....lol

Your drums could be out of adjustment, the cable could be loose and in need of some service....

Its a good excuse to inspect the rear brakes and adjust them (unless you have been in there and know what the status in there is like).

If/once theyre (drums/shoes)adjusted well, you can just adjust the cable too (if its still not up to par), underneath the unit at the split (where one cable splits into two). I guess you could say its about 3/4 of the way back in the center underneath. Just tighten the unit up (youll see what im talking about when you get there)

I would start with the drum assembly first though....anyways Ill look for a picture and post a link if i can find one!

EDIT: I found a link with some pics, yes its for a wrongler but its the same thing!

EDIT:#2

This is for the drum system as a whole

This should get you started in the right direction!!

Jack up the rear tires on your Jeep and put it in Neutral. Turn one of the wheels, if it keeps spining a lot then you need to adjust the rear brakes. This will help with that and also bring the brake pedal higher.
