if it were clogged would it do it all the time? im able to go to town (30 min) and back and dont have any issues til im on my trail itll stay around 160 or so (quarter mark) and then it jumps when i start to slow down and "climb" up the road..i replaced the cap on the res b.c it had a small crack in it but that didnt change anything..

I have a 90, the closed system sucks if it all isnt working properly. what happens is when your going down the road it has the forced air induction and will stay cool but when you climb the hill your not going fast correct? no speed plus strain on the engine equals more heat. It could be a clogged radiator like what was said above, combustion getting into the coolant becasue of a blown head gasket (trust me id know that one for a fact. wouldnt overheat until I climbed a hill), or water pump could be going out. Does your electric fan come on? id start with the fan and like ^ he said flush your radiator.

my guess is that the belt driven fan dosent work proberly. then when sliwing down, no air is going through the radiator, therefor there is not enoughf cooling.
when you reach home, stop the engine and try spin the metal fan, if its loose, its faulty and you need to replace the viscose.

good luck
