i was wondering what temp the coolent has to reach for the dummy light to come on in a jeep cherokee.

 

i kno on newer cherokees the check gauge light comes on but its pretty much when it does overheat lol

 

it doesnt work on temperature.....its a low coolant light. you have no real temp gauge with the dummy lights. i would do what i did, get an aftermarket temp gauge and install it in one of the empty panels. works great

 

there is a "check gauges" dummy light with an audible alarm to let you know somethings going on with one of the gauges including the temp. It happened to me not even a week ago. I heard the alarm, saw the dummy light, then saw my temp gauge was at approx. 225. I don't believe the coolant to be low though, as the reservoir still has the same amount in it it did when I got it.

 

well, i could be wrong, mine got up to like 240 one day tho and didnt go off....although i dont think anything in my gauge cluster works excluding the speedo and gas. i would do a swap over to the other gauge cluster. i was gonna do it but i had already installed the aftermarket one before i knew i could swap it. search around, i heard its pretty much plug and play

 

yes it is a plug and play cause i did the cluster swap in my 88 cherokee but i broke my spedo cable the cluster cost me 37 bucks at the junk yard

 

I've seen our ScanGauge momentarily display 230F with no idiot light on.
