I would think money would be the easy part of a V8 swap in an XJ. There's a long way left to go between bolted in and running right.

Far easier to obtain an old K-5 Blazer roller & bolt the Jeep body on. The 5" difference in wheelbase can come off the frame easy. Sounds like an excellent Winter project.

lt1swap.com Has lots of info. Even LS1 swap. There are a few members over at naxja that have lq truck motors (same as ls, but cast iron block and different intake). There may even be a couple lt motor swaps over there also.

Yes, the 5 inches can come off easy enough, but if you are changing to a Blazer start with something with a frame, much easier to do a Toylet than use the Cherokee body.

eh this isnt so bad to do. im puttin a 5.7 vortec from my 98 chev in mine. spun a bearing so i put a crate engine in my truck. i can rebuild the motor myself. rebuild kit with high comp pistons 400.
adapter from 700r4 to tcase is roughly 600
you can find motor mounts there usually like300
if you wana spend the dough anything is possible.
i figured about 2000 just to get it running and another 1500 after i make headers buy the carb intake and ignition i want.
gotta remember a unibody and small axles wont like 300+ hp
buy my buddies yj is 450+ ft lbs of tq on dana 35/30 and its yet to break.
just depends if ur the type that holds the go pedal to the floor when it gets rough or you let off when you start bouncing.
anyways lol ive said enough. goodluck and have fun

So how many of you nay-sayers have done the swap?

Stroker? No it won't come close to making V-8 torque and horsepower without spending a huge amount of money. Been there, done that.

http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/xj_swap.htm

If you're getting the motor for free then your already well ahead of the game.

Holy Sheepdip Batman. that site is fantastic.

I originally was looking for an Xj with a bad motor to drop in the 350 that is sitting on the floor of my garage. I found one that is mechanically solid so the I6 is staying in for the moment.

Those trans/xfer case adapters are awesome!

Looks like this would be even easier than the 350 I installed in place of the original 258 in my 1973 Gremlin.
