Default drivetrain compatibility

well If you guys check out my build thread, I have a 97 xj that blew a rod. I picked up an entire 99 parts xj.

the xj WAS 4.0/auto/231

Im going to 99 4.0/auto/242

I know the injectors are different, but I wasnt planning much else on top of that. I then came across people having wiring issues between 97 and 99. they should both be obd2? I need as much help and heads up on this as possible as I am doing this at a 3rd party's garage and need to move as quickly as possible. My biggest concern is tranny swappability

You can use the engine just put on your original intake manifold.....

The trans is different but can be used if something is wrong with your old one.
There is a additional sensor that doesnt get used and you also have to swap a P/u from your trans to the 99 trans inside the tail housing.
Here is a link with some info
http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1053970

its item # 680 on this link.....http://www.makcotransmissionparts.co...g-pdf/A340.pdf
The newer one is 4 lobe and the older 2 lobe if i remember correctly.

I was thinking its should bolt in, plug in and worst case scenario Id have to just swap the TCU... My parts jeep has crazy low miles, and I wanted to use it to keep from needing to separate it. It was going to be pulled as a whole and then just dropped back in as a whole.

does the TCU have a seperate wiring harness? cant I just remove the entire 99 wiring harness and swap in over with the trans? Or what about making a selectable shifter? then I shouldnt even need the TCU right?

Im getting to the end of my patience and im also now taking up other peoples time too so I need to get this all straight quickly....If I had the cash Id just say funk it and go 5 speed.
