This problem has been bugging me for a while, but I finally decided to post up some pictures. The carpeting in my driver's footwell near the gas pedal is sitting about an inch off the transmission hump, so it's very close to the gas pedal and sort of gets in the way when driving. You can see some wear in the picture below from where my foot rubs against it when driving. I can push on it and it'll lay flat, but it won't stay on its own any more. Any pointers for getting the carpet to sit flat again against the transmission hump? I don't want to drill into the metal, but I was thinking perhaps getting some glue in there would help. Any ideas?
I will go into my '00 XJ and see how the carpet is set there. Thinking it is just loose in there.
So it makes me wonder how your carpet got "out of shape" to night lie properly there.
But off the top of my head. Maybe some velcro. Good stuff. That 8" strip of 3M stuff. This way if for some reason you have to pull up on the carpet you won't be fighting glue.
So I looked at mine. Not glued down and the narrow part of the "V" cut is right under the lever attached to the gas pedal.
Thinking the carpet might be a shade to far to the driver's side.
Sure. Here you go.
I usually reduce them to not take up to much space on a page but figured leave them alone this time so you could really see.
To give you some perspective:
First shot is as straight on as I could.
Second shot is with my little digital camera pretty much over the brake pedal.
