Default Drive Shaft removal in '01

I DD my jeep on the road and plan on taking a few 2+hr trips over the next few weeks. I have been getting a squeak from a front DS u joint so since 4wd isnt needed for a while I'd like to remove the DS to minimize chance of u joint failure and being stranded until I can order some new ones and get them in.

I just want to sum up my searches and confirm I am good.

Keep it in 2wd.
Disconnect DS at both u joints, remove, Shafts in diff and TC stay.
Nothing will leak, fail, because of this?

Youll be fine removing it. It's 8 bolts total, really simple to do

My 2001 is 95% DD and without the front drive shaft. I only put it in when I need it and I just keep it in the trunk. Will help with the gas mileage without it too!
