Default drive belt question.

the drive-belt squeals like a faking pornstar when i put the windshield defroster on. i put it on last week, when i changed the valvecover gasket and the thermostat. i just wanna get some ideas before i start tearing it back down.

I think your belt is tight, but not tight enough. The last three Belts that i swapped out, i just left all of the bolts "snug", and started it up to determine tension. I shut it down several times and kept tightening it down until all the squeals went away. Then i went back under and sent all of the bolts home!

This little procedure works great for me. Belt Tension Gauges are cool i guess, but why would anyone go out to buy one? The ultimate goal is to keep the belt quiet, right?

Well anyhoot, that's what i'd do...

well after i had put it on, i had to go back and loosen it a bit, because it didn't even have any give.

The drive belt squeals when defrost is used because the belt is slipping on the A/C compressor. Snug the belt a little, again turn it to defrost or A/C and if it still squeals, snug it a little more.

yes, the defrost uses the a/c compressor, so maybe your a/c compressor is on it's way out.
does the a/c work? it needs to be lubed by the freon (r12 or whatever).

When I changed mine it squealed a lot and I had to go back and tighten it a little more each time until it stopped. Now it is fine.
