I can push the button on the outside in and it moves a little on the latch, but wont unlock the door. What should i look for to fix it or what can i buy to fix it

take the panel off and look for broken plastic or bent linkage

x2!! i can not tell you how many times i have replaced the STUPID plastic clips in the doors now... They break really easily...

btw i have never had my doors jimmed open and they are not abused. Just normal wear and tear. and they still break!

x3 I would almost lay money on this being your problem, and even if it isn't, removing the panels will aid in your efforts to diagnose the problem. Let us know how it works out.

P.S. Including information about your Jeep such as the year would be helpful in getting one of us to help you diagnose the problem. The Xj was pretty much universal, but they changed a lot throughout their 17 years of production. Something to keep in mind

It's easy to get the window crank off using a specific tool sold at most any auto parts stores for around 10 bucks, its a really helpful tool to have in your collection....

I have had this happen inside and out on all my doors on my 94. Sometimes its the plastic clip sometimes a rod gets snagged on another rod and they get bent but almost 75% of the time its the mechanism that opens the latch that gets to where it cant push the pivot far enough to open it. I say if nothing looks broke take the latch out and push the rectangle piece and see if it has to move all the way up to free the latch...if so its worn out.
