Door Removal Results (Not Cut Pins)
I have to remove the doors on my 2000 XJ in order to finish up some body work on my rocker replacement.
I don't want to do the permanent mod and cut the pins right now to have doorless options. Maybe someday, but this rocker replacement project is going on 6 weeks now and I need to get done.
Just wondering how it turned out for everybody when then removed the bolts from the door to the hinge.
How bad was your door alignment? Any trick or tips you recommend for doing this.
Also how hard was it to remove the bolts? I fear Michigan winters are going to make this a PITA, and the last thing I need right now is a broken bolt in my door. I actually deformed a torx bit trying to get them loose so far.
I have searched out the forums and found most people recommend just cutting the pins and just not messing with the bolts, but I want to hear some personal experiences.

I did this when I replaced my rockers as well. God am I glad that job is over. I only removed the front doors and it wasn't too bad. If you just snug up the bolts after you put the door back on and close it, you can tighten up the bolts when the door is closed. Look inside your wheel well and you will see the hinge. You may need to remove the liner in the wheel well to do this. The holes in the hinge are so you can do this. Also when I did this I laid a folded up towel on the door sill before i closed the door so that that door would be raised slightly.

Good idea man thanks a lot. I already have my front fender off so I should be able to get to the bolts easily. I have to do all four doors, so hopefully the rears work the same way
By the way your post about replacing your rockers has definitely been very helpful.

Rear doors should be easier to do, being so much lighter. When i did the front door i had a rope tied to the top of the door and had a rope going to the ceiling of my garage to a pulley, then i could easily adjust height when lining up hinge holes and car holes.
