Door lock cylinders acting funny only put key half way in?

Default Door lock cylinders acting funny only put key half way in?

yea having trouble with my 94 XJ putting the key halfway in and jiggling it to i can get it to turn maybe tumblers stuck? i have no idea help

Both door giving you a problem? The lock cylinder may have a bad tumbler. You can get a new one from the dealer and code it yourself.

yes on both sides i though ti can just buy a tumbler some where besides the dealer but i dont know where and i have no idea what coding is lol

Coding the cylinder means using the right combination of tumblers for your key. Buy the cylinder kit from the dealer or the local parts store if they can provide a kit. Remove the old lock cylinder and remove the tumbler cover from the cylinder. The you remove one tumbler at a time starting from one end of the cylinder. There is a number on each tumbler, look for that numbered tumbler in the kit anf pop it into the new cylinder with a new spring until all of the slots are filled, put the retaining cover on and you're done with the coding. I suggest doing this at the kitchen table while using a tray to hold all of the tiny springs and parts. It really is very simple, just take your time.
