Default Door jam switch

To replace a door jam switch on my 01 XJ, is it as easy as unscrewing it and plugging the new one in?

Wouldn't it be better just to disconnect the chime? I like the fact that my interior lights up when I open the door.

Mine just needs the brake/cancel switch adjusted but, it's way up high on the brake pedal arm and I'm just not in the mood for a sore back right now.

A word of caution re: door jamb switch.
On my 97, I unscrewed the drivers switch and the little connector fell back into the jamb. I have used needle nose pliers, modified paper clips, and tie wire creations trying to fish the da* thing back through the hole. It's still in there. My mistake was to let the little white plug get turned around backwards....if you do that....it ain't coming out.
There is no access through the kick panel. The only access is one of those black plastic plugs about 6 inches up from the door hinges. I might be able to get one finger in there...maybe.

Moral of this story....

If you have to fish out the connector, don't pull on the wires and let it get turned around.

Oh yeah...........forgot about that little potential mishap. A large paperclip slipped over the wire behind the connector, straddles the hole nicely and will prevent it from falling in.

Once the switch is unscrewed, how far can you pull it out?

When you are unscrewing it, don't let the center of it turn. If the whole thing is turning, due to corrosion, you are twisting the wires.

IOW use a wrench and something to grip the center with, instead of a socket.

It is easy, and they are self adjusting. Just put new one in, slam door shut.
