Do you drop the oil pan and clean the sump screen when you change your oil? Lol save yourself the headache.
Apples to oranges...

Would you only change your oil once every 45000 miles and never the filter? lol

To answer your retarded question: If the engine sump had a filter and clutch reside on the bottom everyone would.

It's not a filter. It's a screen.

Dumb question. I have a 94 with an AW-4 and I don't seem to be able to find the drain plug. And the Factory Service Manual mentions loosening the pan bolts which I take to mean there isn't a drain plug. Am I right or am I missing something obvious?

Poke your noggin under there and you'll find a drain plug on the trans. It's in between the engine and transfer case, which both happen to have drain plugs also.

Would changing the trans fluid in my 89 hurt it. I dont think it has ever been changed and it has almost 300000 miles on it? I plan on having the trans and transfer case rebuilt in the near future but thats gotta wait till I have the money.

The transmission is made of lifeless metal, completely void of feelings or emotions, it does not get "used" to anything, this is a myth probably invented by some crack pot car psychiatrist.

Go ahead and change the fluid.

Change it. Leave the pan on. I even had my Jeeps' tranny power flushed by a shop,, sacrilege,,I know,,it still works and is prolly much happier on the inside.

I pulled the cooling line off my ol' Dodge 4x4, brush bustin' and lost several quarts of tranny fluid. Took more than 9 quarts to top it off. No ill effects.

The ol' "don't change tranny fluid on hi-mileage tranny" is a myth. Prolly comes from tree huggin' pot head Californians,,,
