That stupid cargo light. I've been chasing this dome light problem for a while and just joined the forum today. I used the search feature and found the answer to the problem in seconds. Now my wife doesn't need to use a flashlight because I removed the dome light fuse weeks ago. So simple. Thanks guys.

The on/off switch for just the rear cargo light? It's the light itself, just push up on the lens.

!! its freezing cold, i gotta go see!!

i barely move the hatch, a 1/2 in and lights come on, still see no sign af a device that makes that happen!. i open the hatch and finally push what feels like a loose mounted light and ALL inside lights go out! so the control for interior lights is in the ceiling mounted rear light?? i close all doors then open driver, no lights!! so i must push the rear light to enable regular entrance lights. who dreamed up that!!! i turned them back on and ill forget i saw it...

oh, i still dont understand what the hxxl turns them on when i open hatch, switch??? a magnetic sw?

Well the switch in the light basically just disables the dome lights from the hatch. The idea is if you're camping/tailgating, you can leave the hatch open without draining the battery. If you open your doors, the domelights will still come on.

re the light switch for the hatch: Fairly confident it is a simple mechanical switch on the latch mechanism itself. Can be accessed by pulling the interior plastic from inside.

May be wise to have someone verify that info though.

Study this diagram. The dome lamp and cargo bay lamp are powered and are looking for a ground. The circuits go through the cargo bay lamp switch then to the Liftgate Switch, which is inside the liftgate.

Triangle B is power from the IOD fuse in the PDC. Triangle C is from the cabin dome lamp.

The wire going to the instrument cluster is to illuminate the Liftgate Ajar graphic in the instrument cluster (99 and up).

The wiring to the Liftgate Switch goes thru the rubber boots between the liftgate and the body. Sometimes these wires get broken, opening the circuits they serve.

I was having same issues with my center dome light and rear carg light staying on and draining my battery.
I just removed the bulbs
I plan to just install my own switch and add LED lights
