Default Doin a cam on a 92....

hey all. does anybody have any ideas of what a good cam for a 92 xj is? i'm looking for something that will give me more torque when wheelin' but also something that performs well on streets. I have a big problem with these stupid kids near my house who always fly past in their little Neon Srt's. We mess around with each other when we see each other driving around, they use their speed, I use my size. I wanna try an even the playing field a little bit with the power department. So anybody now any cams that perform well on and off road? thanks in advance.

your not going to get much of a reply when your saying that you want to race on the street. there are other ways to deal with fast neons. keep the racing on the track.

I completely agree, racing is for tracks only, i completely disagree with street racing, and my neighborhood has had to deal with multiple deaths due to street racing. sorry if it came across that way. I don't want to street race. I am planning on taking it to the track in either sonoma or sacramento soon. So please, let me rephrase my question, does anybody know what a good cam would be for me, if I want to not only get better performance hill climbing but also something that would perform well in a quarter mile application. I know most cherokee's aren't exactly known as speed machines, but i'd love to get a little more power under the hood. again, any help would be greatly appreciated. and thank you for your concern as well as speaking about your beliefs on street racing.

505 has a good cam for street/offroad.

but, nothing you do to an all motor 4.0 short of a very high compression stroker motor is going to make your XJ keep up with the SRT's

Save your money. Adding a cam alone isn't going to make enough of a difference.

Yo're going to have to spend some serious coin to get any real performance increase out of a 4.0L. It's just not a great motor for simple bolt on power increases.

Stroke it.

I'm in South San jose, near Los Gatos.

I was thinking of stroking it, and i'm fine with the cost of that, I'm trying to keep the cost between $1500-$2500, so from what i've seen naturally aspirated is the only thing in my price range. I've really just started to get into the performance side of cars. I'm a bodyman so I know a little bit about engines but not a whole bunch. With a stroker is bigger always better? Would doing a 5.0 instead of a 4.6 make a big enough difference for the cost? I've heard there are so many different ways to do a stroker, so does cost all depend on how big you go? Or is it just the parts you use?

And with compression i've heard ~9.5:1 is what I would want to aim for? Is that right? All this info I've gotten just from doing some online reading about strokers.
