This was on my 89 xj but when I go to the junkyard the 89 xj I find do not have this type of panel....I would even consider purchase retail price if I need to. But I cannot find anywhere that sells liftgate panels. Please help

Silly question, what is wrong with the panel, color? Clips can be purchased separate.

Lol, sorry, the plastic brackets that the clips slip into are broken. Also because of this the previous owner used a bunch of screws to fasten it together. Now most of the screws are striped.....

Another option is to drill holes where all the factory push pins are and use push pins like the ones below, that go thru the panel. Make sure theyre long enough to do their job. Most ive seen are black or gray, so paint to match if you want them to blend in.

Agree with the previous folks - there are a wide array of fastening options if you check your local hardware store.

I have to deal with my own tailgate trim panel with the same sort of issue - broken or missing clips and attempts by a P.O. to use screws into the fiberglass hatch. It's one of those, I'll get to it eventually things.

They come on 1987 to 96 models, there is one on e-Bay but it looks like 7 of the 11 clips are broke and they want $85 for it doh.

Had another idea. Cut small blocks of wood and shape them to fit into each of the broken retainer slots. JB Weld or epoxy the blocks in place, and use velcro to secure the panel to the liftgate. You could do the same with the non broken slots as they still have the slots intact so theres already something to stick to. Only issue with adhesives might be what the panel is made of as some plastics dont take well to it. It dont always stick.
