Default Does anyone know what this is? Strange brace in driver's frame rail

Hi guys and gals, first post here. Just picked up a 2001 60th anniversary edition and I'm in the middle of some floor replacement work (had a leaky windshield that the PO did nothing about for years, and as a result the carpet stayed sodden pretty much all the time and ate the floor from the inside). When I got the floor hacked out, I found this weird brace in the driver's side frame rail. It's got some kind of porous, brittle adhesive on the top of it that was sandwiched between the brace and the floor pan. Has anybody seen this before?

Thanks all, looks like you've got a great community here, looking forward to partaking in the discussion!

you might want to have the local law enforcement run the dog around your rig a few times. looks like you're sitting on 2 keys of high grade black columbian bam bam.

Sorry i have nothing to offer. not seen that one before.

Haha yeah it kinda does look like that, no worries, I looked it over from every angle and it ain't a drug stash!

I'll take a pic from a different angle and post it up, but there's really nothing to crack open. It has that flat top with a seam up the middle but the cross section looks like of a flat-topped X shape. The metal is pretty flimsy so it can't be anything structural. It has more of that porous adhesive holding it inside the frame rail and it was riveted with a couple of pop rivets to the floor pan.

Explosive charge for your ejector seat?

I didn't have anything like that in my '96 when I redid the floors. No idea what it's for.

I actually just realized that when I went out to look around at it some more. Thanks for confirming my suspicions though.

My '99 had something similar in the passenger side frame rail (haven't looked in DS yet). Just a couple of little bricks though, looked like small beads of expanding foam insulation, but made of something quite hard. Snapped off when I poked them with a screwdriver.
