...i think that's why they made sports cars, man. For doin, you know, sporty stuff. Like burnouts, drifting, drag racing, pavement donuts, etc.
Unless, of course, this is your jeep....

TRS80 has it pegged.
Axle wrap or "wind-up" is caused by largely by pinion angle and weight transfer along with parts that aren't designed to be power-braked at the stop sign.
Basically, if your car SQUATS when you hammer it, your pinion angle is wrong which causes the weight to unload off the rear allowing the axle wind-up to release (it winds up, releases, winds up, releases over and over - that's what causes the wheel hop). If your car's hind-end RISES upon hard launch, the weight transfer is correct and is causing the AXLE to be forced into the ground and the body to lift in reaction to this. The lifting of the body is how you know the axle is being driven downward thus creating traction. The axle can still hop but doesn't want to as badly.
Do some net research - all drag racers understand this issue well. I even have a book out in the shop this exact subject...can't remember the title but I'll dig it out and report back. I think it's "How to Make Your A-Body Launch" and refers to the GM A-body platform (Chevelles, GTO's, Skylarks, etc.) that have rear control arms and coil springs. They are notorious for poor launch.
Meanwhile, read this: http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/t...ons/index.html
It covers the basic issues for both coils and leafs. It is not hard to cure...but the solution has compromises.
In the end, I like dyte2004's answer the best...

"Doctor, it hurts when I bend my wrist back to touch the top of my arm". "Don't do that then."
Stop doing burnouts, checks don't think they're cool and it breaks stuff.

I found this
http://www.xr-underground.com/forum/...ad.php?t=33174
maybe could help? It isn't a permanent solution but might be the least invasive one.
