I'm getting some new shoes soon and was wondering if you think its worth buying the tire protection plan? Its almost an extra $120 @ Big O.

I've used mine due to road construction around my house. After working for Sears Automotive *horrible job* I can tell you that tire manufacturers warranty the craftsmanship of their tire. They did not make that tire with a nail in it. So, they will not warranty the tire.

It all depends on what the warranty covers. I had a "Road Hazard" policy years ago. I thought that I would be covered for just about anything.
I picked up a screw and had to get the tire fixed. Guess what? The policy I had didn't cover punctures. Now, if the whole tire had exploded, it would have been covered. But, I had to pay for that repair out of pocket.
I haven't bought another policy since. I'll just pay the 20 bucks to get the puncture fixed and tire rebalanced.

It seems every set of tires I've bought in my life had issues somewhere along the line forcing me to buy at least one new tire. I get the road hazard warranty everytime I buy a set these days.

I've known several friends who purchased the "No questions asked" cert. from discount and its just that. Even if you hammer a tire wheeling because your acting like a maniac, they replace it. Cheap insurance.
I cant speak to the Big-O plan, maybe quiz them a bit and if its similar, I'd recomend it.

always get it. Never know what's gonna happen and if you use it one time for a set of tires, it pays for itself. if not, it's just like every other insurance. definitely look over the coverage though and make sure it's good.

I bought it on mine. I had to think about it for awhile though. I decided to do the statistical "decision analysis" that insurance companies do to figure out what their payoff is. Using my cost of $170 for the 4 certificates and new tire cost of $270 each I crunched the numbers and found that it would be the best economic decision to buy the certs if there is a 31% or higher chance of needing to replace a tire. I go wheeling a lot and know lots of guys who mess up their tires, so I figure for me there is probably way higher than a 31% chance of ruining at least one tire so it is a good deal. Depends on your what type of driving you do though.
