29 spline 8.25 (just shy of D44 strength)
or a D35, weak axle compaired to 8.25/D44
the only cherokees with stock D44's where from 87-90 IIRC... so i would say no, based off the year 2000....
i have a 2000 cherokee sport and was interested in getting lockers. i was looking at my rear axle and they kind of look like chrysler 8.25 but they are a little more rounded like a basketball. any ideas? any help is appreciated. thanks

If you have ABS it's a Dana 35.
If you do not, it is an 8.25.
Very very very few XJs had 8.25 and ABS in general, especially 97 and up and with the 29 spline versions ABS was pretty much gone. I don't think any at all in 00-01.
If you're still unsure for some reason, the 8.25 has 3" shaft housings to the wheels..
The Dana 35 2.5" shaft housings.
Measure just inside your U bolts under the leafs to be sure.
