Default DNJ VCG won't work on old style VC

I had an extra DNJ valve cover gasket laying around from my 00 rebuild. I noticed my 89 was needing a gasket swap, so I figured I'd get it done.

My old style valve cover on the 89 has a lip on the inner bottom of it that is preventing the gasket to sit into it. The DNJ also has thin metal plates across it that rest on the lip. I guess I'll have to go buy a new one since she's ripped apart.

Any suggestions? Cork?

The renix/HO valve cover gasket and the 00/01 gaskets are different shapes. You need to match the gasket to the head. The 0331 head has a different sealing surface shape to it.

I used the earlier gasket when I put my 00 valve cover on my 88 Comanche (has 92 head swap) and used the same gasket for my 00 Cherokee (has 93 head and VC).

It matched the head just fine. But not the valve cover. I have a 99 valve cover that needs one of the oil vent rings on the top (not sure what they're called.). Would it be easier to swap VC? Or just get the old style gasket?

The CCV grommets can be had in the help section, the are marked as Ford PCV grommets.

The oil cap is also a Ford part from a 2.3L tempo I used to have. Matched perfectly.

When I tried the spare 00 gasket I had it wouldn't match up properly, it was a stock gasket from my 00 XJ. I had a full gasket kit for 87-99 4.0L and used the one that matched. The valve cover mated to the 87-99 gasket fine. But the 0331 (00-01) didn't match the head surface in my case.

A Felpro permaseal rubber gasket is cheap enough, I'd just buy a gasket that matched the head I was using.
