Dirtiest transmission fluid ever?

^ I read it as a reference to Jim Carrey, not a forum member.

I'm sure CCKen holds no grudge regarding that, D.
Gave it some thought that one actually. What I found the most striking was the "bluntness" in the reaction this time. Made me curious and wanting to ask why....but couldn't be bothered really. Maybe CCKen just felt like it and maybe Jim Carrey pushes hit button.
If, in my experience, CCKen's dislike towards a forum member is expressed (if at all), it is usually faaar more subtle to start off with, more a mind game, a forum version of psychological 'warfare', evolving over several posts, almost like fencing, chess or maybe just plain bare-fist -action (depending on the mental status of the opponent)....some posts even with (I have no doubt carefully thought over), words chosen to be open for several interpretations, leading to sometimes interesting misunderstandings and exchanges of thoughts and opinions....and when you read between the lines, or he meets an adversary with similar battle skills (in other words, he gets a bit tickled, challenged) then I think things get quite entertaining. In other words: the reaction will be nothing like what we've seen above.
So anyway, don't worry D, we're all good here. And yes, some things are better left ignored which extrapolates to several things in life.
Now, shall we all move back on topic, before some readers think this is some fuzzy interaction management analysis group?

"Don't change your ATF. Your transmission will fail soon after that. It's true. Because someone on the internet told someone else. Your transmission is used to the shavings and all the crud by now, and might suffer shock from fresh ATF. It might cost you your trans..!!!."
LOL
Sorry, I had to.
OK, if the advice wasn't clear yet; yes, that ATF (or what is once was) needs replacing. And mine looked like that too, and that was after 2x drain refill within 1000 km.
So, I looked into, did and then became a supporter of the "forward flush method". Clean, quick, and refreshing all ATF in a few minutes, rather than repeating the drain/refill procedure (which is perfectly fine, but draining only part of the fluid at a time and needs repeating several times). Using the trans's own pump, nothing aggressive or reversed shop-like flushed.
Let me know if you want info in that, more than happy to write up the steps.

Good question.
I have an 85 with the A904 3sp auto and from reading up on those, Chrysler put out a service bulletin that said not to use Dex/Merc and only use ATF+ fluids because the Dex/Merc would damage the clutch materials. So it seems Dex/Merc for the AW4 and ATF+ if you have the old A904.

Complete drain. We used to drill a small hole in the torque converter then tap in a 1/8 brass plug after its clear for future drains ..Draining just whats in pan and new filter . Then repeat until fluid clears best and safest way to attempt this.

If one is willing enough, one can pull the two cooler tubes at the quick disconnect couplings on the trans, as well as draining the oil pan, then let them drain away.
I did this only because I was replacing my cooler lines and couplings. I got nearly 6 quarts of ATF out of my AW4 doing this. Of course, the TC held its couple of quarts.
