Default Direct mount Air filter??

Air filter is mounted directly to the throttle body. Do they make kits for this or would i have to make my own? saw this on my dads truck and was currious how it would be done on a XJ.

GM 4.Slow95... Are you talking about a filter directly on top on the throttle body? The thing is clearance and hot air. You can probably do it, but the hot air will cause a gas and air ratio problem. Cool ram air is better.

If you can find a air filter at Autozone that is the right size, go for it. If you have a problem with the rubber mount between the throttle body and filter, go to sears, home depot or a supply place that has the rubber tubes used in fixing plumbing or connecting to PVC tubes. It will be rubber with two clamps.

I have seen a couple of systems that draw air in from the opposite side of the engine (where the distributor is).

I think that would be a better idea.

I dont know if sticking just a filter directly on the throttle body would be a wise decision.

On modern FI systems the intake tube assemblies can add to the effective volume of the intake manifold and help increase the efficiency.

also as Dre stated, the exhaust is right there and it could raise your inlet air temperatures.

NICE! just wonder if there would be a problem with water getting in the filter. I like the idea.

this is what I had in mind

I was going to do this BUT I had trouble finding an elbow that had a tight enough bend radius to fit under the hood.

You could probably build your own rather easy, they sell thin wall mandrel bent stainless steel pipe on amazon for pretty cheap. slap a filter on there and away you go.

you would just have to relocate 2 vacuum lines going to the existing airbox if I remember correctly.

i had a customer with an XJ a couple months back that did this.

he just mounted a low profile filter to the top of the intake. nothing special, but he seemed to like it.
