Default Digital temp gauge?

Has anybody here installed a digital temp hand to have an exact reading of how hot your XJ is running?
I searched and couldn't find nothing. This sounds very interesting to me. Our little heat hands kind of suck with the way it jumps from 210 (or 220 on some of the older gauges) to the next white lines and then straight to red. I mean am I at 218 or 228?

If anybody has, can you post some pictures?

Haven't, but I plan on installing a DakotaDigital gauge cluster into mine, honestly it doesn't sound all that hard, just a different type of sensor output to the gauge output.

Surprised nobody has done this. You should make a video or take good pictures and post it as a write up when you do it.... if I ever do it, I will do the same.

I have an SE model with only warning lights, no gauges. I plan on installing at least a voltage , temp and oil pressure gauge. There’s some on Amazon made by glowshift. They’re somewhere in the middle of the price range. I’m afraid to use the cheapest ones for something that needs to be a little more accurate. The other thing I like about them is that the color can be selected. All I need to do is decide where I’m going to locate them. Two places I’m thinking are either the a pillar or on the ceiling centered just above the windshield. Probably just do 2 gauges and for the voltage I have a digital one that will fit in place of the cigarette lighter.

I have used digital gauges on some vehicles, including OP, ATF temp, digital voltage and coolant

have found the cheap ones ($20) sometimes fail

when they are working, they are much better than inaccurate analogue needle gauges

a coolant temp sensor needs to be completely immersed in the engine very similar to the OEM item, or readings will be different, You cannot tee coolant gauges

What year is your XJ? This can be super easy if you have an OBDII XJ.
