Default diffs front and rear? 1988 xj

Hey i'm knew to jeeps and i just got a 1988 jeep cherokee xj pioneer olympic edition with a 4.0 and a 5 spd. If anybody can help me out i'de like to know what the differentials are front and rear. What kind of transfer case. And any tips towards lifting it and putting bigger wheels on it and any engine mods.

Thanks,
Taylor

Front Diff- High Pinion Dana 30
Rear Diff- Dana 35 (non c-clip) also very possible you could have dana 44
Transfer Case- np242 or np231, it will say on Tcase

As for lifts, big tires and engines mods,, do a search and you will get lots of results

You will have a d30 in the front and either a d35 or 44 in the rear,if the rear has a rubber fill plug it is a 35,if it is a square metal fill plug it is a 44,8.25s did not come out until 91 with a 27 spline axles and 29 spline in 97.

my 86 d35 had a metal fill plug so you might want to look at the shape of the diff cover. d35 is oval and a d44 will be more hexagonal and taller. should be a tag on that as well. think d44s only came with some of the cherokees with towing package, so if you don't have a towing package (probably don't with a 5spd) then you won't have it.
